Back in the day, Chinese nobles were kind of obsessed with breeding flat-nosed lap dogs. (It’s understandable…just look at those adorable faceless faces!) In fact, the Pekingese was so adored that stealing one in Imperial China would earn you the death sentence.
And since they were basically considered royalty, common people had to bow down to them if they ever happened to cross paths.
Don’t get me wrong, I totally get loving and caring for a pet.
But could you imagine having to bow down to a politician’s furbaby all the time? It’d probably get a little loathsome after a while…
